Language becomes not only a sort of communication tool, but also as a means of reflection to the user of the language. It has varieties of pattern and is used both spoken and written. The first language to learn, sometimes, brings a lot of interference both intentionally and not. Javanese as the most number of people in Indonesia has its own characteristics in its language. One of the characteristics held by the people of Javanese is in the Javanese pronunciation. This thesis mainly discusses about the An Analysis of Javanese Interference of Javanese students Speech, especially students of English Training Education Department of the fifth semester, in terms of speech. For the possibility that Javanese pronunciation and English pronunciation have differences, this interference, somehow, put students in confusing to determine whether or not every words they pronounce are wrong. In fact, many students cannot put this regular habit away from them. The habit of Javanese pronunciation itself has already stuck in their head, so that when they pronounce English words, the interference of Javanese pronunciation dominantly comes on to the way of their speech. By conducting this research, the writer finds that the interference of Javanese pronunciation in speech such as: First, Vowel interference when the students pronounce /Λ/, /u:/, /I/, /ɑ:/ and /æ/ vowel, for example : /blood/, /new/, /meal/, and /bad/. Because they never found that vowel in Javanese pronunciation, so they pronounce that vowel use short vowel like /u:/, /o/, and /a/. Second, Consonant interference when the students pronounce plosive sounds especially /p/, /t/, and /k/ in initial position. For example: /page /, /time/, and /knife. Third, Diphthong interference, in Javanese pronunciation there are no diphthongs, this is the biggest problem of Javanese students in pronouncing English words. For example : /make/, /save/, /learn/, /island/, /write/, /go/, /date/, and /where/. Keywords : Javanese pronunciation, Interference language, Javanese Students, Speech. |
