An Error Analysis on Speaking English at the Third Semester Students of English Department of Muhammadyah University of Purworejo in Academic Year 2012/2013. A Thesis. English Department, the Faculty of Teacher Training and Educational Sciences, Muhammadyah University of Purworejo. Keywords: Error Analysis, Speaking Skill, Errors Nowadays, people around the word tend to be more interested in learning English. They learn it for certain purposes. Learning English means learning language components and language skills. Grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and spelling are examples of language components. Meanwhile, language skill covers listening, writing, reading, and speaking. Among the four skills, speaking is often considered as the most difficult skill to be learned by the students. The objectives of this research is to find out the kinds of error and how far the error in English speaking made by the third semester students of Muhammadyah University of Purworejo in Academic year 2012/2013. This research is also analyzed the errors that made by students. The researcher takes the population of the third semester students of Muhammadyah University of Purworejo in Academic year 2012/2013. The researcher uses class F and G which consist of 32 students as sample. In collecting the data the researcher held observation and collects some documents. The result of the analysis shows that the kinds of errors that made by third semester students are Inter-lingual Error is 20.5%, Erroneous Input is 27%, Inherent Difficulty 6.8%, Omission 34%, Misinformation 9%, and Misordering 2.2%. The most error made by the third semester students of Muhammadyah University of Purworejo in Academic year 2012/2013 is Omission. Based on the findings, better condition of the classroom will make the teaching learning process more comfortable and interesting method. Moreover, being confident is an important thing in learning process. The better understanding among the students in a class, the better the process of learning will be. While the most important thing in improving the quality of students’ learning process in speaking comes from themselves. The students should study hard and more active to get good English achievement; besides, the students should have motivation and also think that English is interesting by being able to speak fluently.
