Detil Spesifik ABSTRACT Neliyana, 2013. The Effectiveness of using JIGSAW method on teaching reading narrative text at eight grade of SMP N 1 Bruno in academic year 2012/2013. A Thesis. English Department, The Faculty of Teacher Training and Educational Sciences, Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo. Consultant: Semi Sukarni, M. Pd. Teaching English in Indonesia was started since elementary school. Based on this fact, English is important language nevertheless student still found difficulties in learning English. Teacher can use method in teaching English to convey the lesson. JIGSAW is one of method that could be used for teaching narrative text. The goal of this research is to find out the effectiveness of using JIGSAW method for teaching narrative text on the second grade students of SMP N 1 Bruno. In this research the researcher took two classes as the sample. One class was experimental group (31 students) and the other was control group (32 students) So, the number of sample were 63 students. While, the instrument used in this thesis, was reading test. To collecting the data, the researcher used pre-test and post-test. Before conducting post-test, the researcher gave treatment for experimental group using JIGSAW and for control group using traditional method. After getting enough data, the researcher calculated the data using t-test polled and variance. Based on the computation, the mean score of experimental group was 73.70 and the mean of control group was 65.15. The t-value was consulted to the t-table at the 0.05 significance level. It showed that the t-table is 2.00 and the t-value was 2.32 it means that t-value was higher than t-table so, it can be concluded that the use of using JIGSAW for teaching narrative text at the second grade students of SMP N 1 Bruno on the academic year 2012/2013 is effective.
