Keywords: Team Game Tournament, Reading Skill, Teaching-Learning Process The thesis is intended to describe the effectiveness of team game tournament to improve students’ reading skill in report text on the second grade at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Purworejo in the academic year 2012/2013. In this research, there are two questions to be answered. There are 1) is the use of team game tournament effective in improving students’ reading skill in report text to the second grade students? 2) does team game tournament give a positive contribution towards to the students’ reading skill? This research was conducted in the second grade students’ of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Purworejo in the academic year 2012/2013. The sample were the second year students of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Purworejo with the number of 64 students. They were taken by using purposive sampling. In collecting the data, researcher used pre-test and post-test. Test was used to know the level of students’ reading skill in report text. The result of this research revealed that using Team Game Tournament is effective to improve students reading skill. It was proved that the result of t-value is 2.59, and based on the critical value of t-table by using the 5% (0.05) significance level, the value of t-table is 2.000. it means that t-value is higher than t-table (2.59 > 2.000). The mean of pre-test in experimental group is 72.44, and the mean of post-test is 76.56. It means that the mean of post-test is higher than the mean of pre-test. Moreover, using Team Game Tournament as strategy of teaching to improve students’ reading skill of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Purworejo in the academic year 2012/2013 is effective. It showed that using Team Game Tournament on the teaching learning process gives a positive contribution towards the students’ reading skill. The result of research finding proved that the Hypothesis of research (Ha) is accepted. The researcher suggests to English teachers to apply Team Game Tournament as teaching strategy on teachinglearning process. |
