A thesis: English Department of Teacher Training and Educational Sciences, Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo. 2012. Consultant: Sudar, M. Pd Vocabulary is very important to support in communication. Mostly, vocabulary is considered as a difficult subject. The students still have difficulty in understanding a new word or a new vocabulary. Vocabulary is an important thing to support the four language skills, which consist of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Therefore, English learners must acquire vocabulary. The aim of this research was to know whether there is any effectiveness of Teams Games Tournament (TGT) in teaching the students vocabulary of the eleventh grade students of Vocational Senior High School of Pembaharuan Purworejo. The subjects in this research were 30 of TITL TGB and 35 of TKR A students of Vocational Senior High School of Pembaharuan Purworejo in the academic years of 2012/2013. Before the treatment was conducted, a pre-test was administered and a post-test was also held at the end of treatment. The procedures of applying Teams Games Tournament are: Preparation and follow-up activities. The researcher analyzed the data using normality test, test of homogeneity and finding t- test as hypothesis. The use of TGT in testing the students vocabulary of the eleventh grade students of Vocational Senior High School of Pembaharuan Purworejo in the academic year of 2012/2013 is effective. It can be proved by the result of t-test was 2,57. Then, the researcher consulted the critical value on the t-table using 5% (0.05) alpha level significance and the 65 degree of freedom was 1.99. The computation shows that t-value was higher than t-table that is 2.57> 1,99. Related to the result of t-test the mean score of post-test is higher than the mean score of pre-test (80.24>71.76). It means that Teams Games Tournament is effective in teaching the students’ vocabulary of the eleventh grade Students of Vocational Senior High School Of Pembaharuan Purworejo in the academic year of 2012/2013.
